This feature came in a while ago, but you might not know about it yet: OpenID users can join communities now. They can't post to communities, but by joining the community they can gain access to member-only posts and make comments as members.

This might be useful for people running fandom events as communities on Dreamwidth, especially ones where longer comment lengths might be handy, as people on LiveJournal can join in without needing a Dreamwidth account. (People who do want accounts, or who have invites to give away, should as usual see dw_codesharing.)
